Egypt : Egypt's landscape is mosty desert, with 99% of the population concentrated in just 5.5% of the total land area, mainly along the river Nile.

Canary Islands : Located just off the north-west coast of Africa, the volcanic Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago. When first visited by the ancient Romans, they found a large dog population and so named them Insula Canaria meaning Island of the Dogs. Most of these shots were taken on Fuerteventura with some from Lanzarote.

Salisbury Cathedral : The cathedral has the tallest church spire in the UK, at 123 metres (404 feet). It also contains the oldest working clock in the world dating from AD 1386, and one of the four surviving original copies of the Magna Carta.

Applecross Peninsula :
The remote Applecross peninsula on the west coast of Scotland was only accessible by boat until the early 20th century. It is now linked to the rest of the country by one of Scotland's most treacherous roads, the Bealach na Ba (Pass of the Cattle).

Thailand, "Land of Smile" : The Thai population are almost entirely Buddhist, a religion which teaches tolerance, kindness, compassion and contentment. This has given rise to a warm and welcoming nature in the Thai people, and the country's nickname "Land of Smile". More on Buddhism here.

Dungeness and the Sound Mirrors : Dungeness is one of the largest areas of shingle in the world, and of international conservation importance for its unique variety of wildlife. These structures were built between the wars and formed part of an early warning system designed to detect the sound of distant enemy aircraft approaching the Kent coast. The sound of the aircraft engines would be reflected in the curved surfaces and concentrated onto a central microphone. The development of faster aircraft and invention of the radar eventually made them obsolete. The mirrors are located on private land, but guided tours are available. More details here.

Tyneham, England's lost village : In 1943 the gunnery range east of Lulworth Cove, Dorset was expanded in response to the development of more powerful weapons and the longer distances required for firing. This expansion resulted in the eviction of the inhabitants of the village of Tyneham, and two smaller settlements at Povington and Worbarrow, as well as numerous farms.

The inhabitants left just before Christmas and were promised that they could return to their homes after the war had ended. This promise was never kept and to this day the area is still under military control. Most of the dwellings of the now deserted village have deteriorated over the years and today lie in ruins, including an Elizabethan manor house. The church, school and a public telephone box however have been preserved and kept looking much as they did in 1943.

Public access to Tyneham and the surrounding footpaths is permitted during most weekends of the year.
